This is one of our team bonding ideas where the participants will get to know each other through making eye contact and then saying the first thing that comes to their minds, their first thought.

It gets interesting when some people say things about others they wouldn’t even expect from themselves when they’re not thinking. You can do this exercise with a team that is well acquainted with each other or with a group that is fairly new.

During this Team Bonding Ideas exercise you can use multiple variations:

  1. You can make the team come up with themes themselves. They can pick a theme they find fitting for the team and the situation. Especially playful themes are fun to experiment with.
  2. If you don’t want one row to do the exercise with only the other row. You can shuffle seats every other round so that participants won’t face the same 6 people every time.
  3. Before the participants speak out their first thoughts you can let the participants receiving the first thought first guess what they think will be said about them. For example: “I think the person across from me thinks I’m quite impatient.” Then when the other participant says what comes to mind they can immediately check how accurate the prediction was.
